Fishing Bait Tips

If you've been fishing for any period of time you must realize that the question posed in the title of this article is all but unanswerable. There is probably no best fishing bait, but rather there are individual anglers favorite bait for fishing.

Most lure weigh from a ΒΌ of an ounce to over 3 ounces. The most popular weight being the 5/8 ounce lure while the average requirement turns out to be 1/ 2 to 3 quarters of an ounce. People prefer to cut the bait into chunks to attract the fish with the natural flavor and odor while some anglers prefer to use whole bait for some odd reason.

There are many types of fishing bait that you can use for fishing. There are large baits, small baits and even medium sized baits. It's important to know though that there are this many kinds of fishing baits for a reason. Each fishing style has its own set of fishing baits and lures.

The first thing to keep in mind is that when we refer to trout fishing bait, we're referring mainly to one of two things. Either live bait or synthetic bait. Live bait is my personal favorite, with synthetic bait coming in a distant second place. The point is that they can both be quite effective, when fished in the proper manners. When we refer to live bait we mainly mean live worms, grubs, minnows, and/or insects.

Fishing over paste baits means you can fish over broken down bait that more wary and more experienced big fish can very often find much more comfortable feeding with confidence over than with whole pellets and boilies!

One of the best features of meat baits such as luncheon meat is that it has an unusual rubbery texture, is high in attractive oils, yet is water soluble, is nutritious and can be flavoured too. Various bait companies offer flavoured luncheon meat and similar products. Everyone knows luncheon met is a proven bait for lots of species including carp, catfish and barbel in specimen sizes.

Most live worm anglers attempt to thread their worm onto a single hook to make it look natural. This accomplishes little more than creating what I like to call a "worm ball". "Worm balls" are not a problem when we're dealing with small and/or inexperienced fish, but are a big problem for those of you who would like to take your worm fishing to the next level.

Trout bait comes in two basic varieties; live and synthetic. Live bait includes worms, minnows, leeches, etc. Synthetic bait includes Power Bait, salmon eggs, Berkley Gulp products, etc. Below I will outline the most popular and effective of these two categories of trout bait. You can then experiment and find your favorite bait.

For trout fishing, no fishing line larger than 6 pound test should be employed. I personally use and suggest 4 pound test, but 6 pound is tolerable. Anything larger than six pound test is complete overkill, and will cost you bites. Less bites obviously means less trout, so make sure your using nothing larger than 6 pound test for trout fishing.
